Comparing

A very interesting topic now that changes the dynamics of things. Many people are skeptical of the new 4-cylinder turbo engine because they are concerned with its reliability. as well as the fact that you can no longer buy a straight gas engine. You have to get a hybrid with the Toyota. As far as the Nissan frontier. The reliable V6 is still there. Or different variants depending on the years.

Performance and off roading

In some cases, the Frontier does a better job, but the new ones offer a diff locker and a few options for off roading. The Tacoma seemingly has different options. The Frontier still has power steering with a convention pump. whereas the Tacoma has electric steering and the repairs varies as electric units are very expensive to fix where hydraulic steering units are cheaper. In some cases, the frontier does better. were as the Tacoma has better traction options and lift depending on the year.

The used truck market

You can still get a good deal on the Frontier. It's cheaper than the Tacoma but that's all changing since some people are abandoning their Tacoma's and going to the Frontier because of the lack of gasoline engine options rather than just going hybrid or 4-cylinder turbo. For something that is more proven than something untested.

Desing drew backs of the Frontier

The Frontier has always had leaking axle seals that must be pressed out. If left unchecked the oil will leak out of the differential from the seals and destroy the gears inside. Other drawbacks include excessive chassis twisting when off road-roading causes the rubber bushings to make noise. Also, the front chassis bushing ted to fail sometimes and make noise and require replacement.

Desing drew backs of Tacoma

The steel on the chassis on both vehicles tend to rust if not taking care of. Also, the new Toyota engine 4-cylinder is untested, and turbos are more precarious to take care of whereas a hybrid could be unwanted or become a reliability issue and must be taken to a mechanic who knows hybrids.
