Why is there more ethanol in fuel?

The ethanol is supposed to help with emissions, but you end up Buring more fuel.
They say it is for the environment, but you end up using more fuel in the end. Ethanol has a higher-octane rating, it's good for preventing spark knock. You can also run a higher compression ratio.
But in reality, ethanol is less efficient, as far as carbon deposits is concerned the is no real noticeable difference. But ethanol is known to eat your rubber seals in older engines because they are not designed to run alcohol in fuel. Basically, corn liquor. Ethanol holds in moisture which will damage seals and corrode metal.
You can use products like STA-BIL and Marvel mystery-oil together. To help prevent damage to the seals and metal. Now on modern engines they are made with metals and seals to withstand the corrosion that ethanol can cause to older fuel system and engines.

The problem with ethanol is if you store the fuel or have it in your gas tank for a long period of time it can cause corrosion even with products designed to extend fuel life there can still be corrosion or a little bit of it on the metal and seals.

What I have notice with using the combination of Marve mystery oil and STY-BIL is the fuel will evaporate or lose it volatility, but it will not leave a residue so you may lose your explosive capabilities of fuel bit will not leave a powder like substance behind
